Aircraft Recognition Chart: N.2501 Noratlas
Aircraft recognition poster of a Nord N.2501 Noratlas. Air Diagram number AD6586, issue 1, sheet 1, April 1956.
Aircraft recognition charts were an essential training tool in learning to recognise aircraft. They depicted silhouettes of both allied and enemy aircraft and were used to help military personnel and members of the Royal Observer Corps to quickly identify whether an aeroplane was friendly or hostile. The Nord Noratlas was designed to replace outdated transport aircraft types in the French Air Force. It entered French Air Force service in 1953 where it remained in service for over 30 years, the aircraft was also used by countries such as West Germany, Israel and Greece.
