A silver cross with bifurcated and curled ends bearing flaming grenades, overlaid vertically with a two-blade propeller and horizontally with a pair of wings. The centre medallion composed of a laurel wreath overlaid by a crowned Tudor rose bearing, centrally, RAF in monogram. The top branch without a grenade, fashioned with a decorative shape and loop for suspension. An intermediate ring connects to a plain suspender bar with laurel leaves below pierced to receive the intermediate ring. Reverse - Within a ring GRI 1918. Ribbon - white and purple in thin horizontal lines.

Bronze cross pattée with crossed swords, points upwards, in the interstices. Obverse - central medallion of the head of Marianne in right profile encircled by a band bearing REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE and a laurel spray. Reverse - plain central medallion bearing 1914 1918. Ribbon - green with seven narrow red stripes. The ribbon bears a bronze palm spray denoting a mention in Army despatches, (known as Croix de Guerre avec Palmes) a gilt star for an Army Corps despatch, a silver star for a Divisional despatch or a bronze star for a Brigade, Regimental or Unit despatch.
