On a patch of black melton cut to shape, the words ROYAL AIR FORCE embroidered in white arranged in two lines, the upper, first two words, curved, the lower straight. The back reinforced with cotton and the letters embroidered through.

Distinguished Flying Cross

A silver cross with bifurcated and curled ends bearing flaming grenades, overlaid vertically with a two-blade propeller and horizontally with a pair of wings. The centre medallion composed of a laurel wreath overlaid by a crowned Tudor rose bearing, centrally, RAF in monogram. The top branch without a grenade, fashioned with a decorative shape and loop for suspension. An intermediate ring connects to a plain suspender bar with laurel leaves below pierced to receive the intermediate ring. Reverse - Within a ring GRI 1918. Ribbon - white and purple in thin diagonal lines.
