Jig, Propeller Laminating

Aircraft & Exhibits, London, Hangar Two, X002-7578

Clamp for holding propellers during construction and glueing for laminating. Consists of very large, thick wooden base plate, supported on 17 transverse sections of angle iron, and above, 16 individual screw-down iron clamps to press down the propeller sections. Each with wooden chocks to support and fit around the prop.

Circular glass fronted aircraft instrument. Adjustment knob at bottom centre. Pronounced rim where the instrument fits the aircraft instrument panel. Indicator hand at centre. Six screw fixing holes around the edge.

Propeller from Sopwith Dolphin

Two blade wooden propeller for 200 hp Hispano Suiza engine as fitted to Sopwith Dolphin.

Hispano-Suiza 220hp

220 hp eight cylinder water cooled aero engine as fitted to the S.E.5a and Sopwith Dolphin. Inspection in February 2001 revealed some missing or damaged parts.

Crossley 4x2 Light Tender

Standard RFC personnel carrier; capacity 11 seats. 4 cylinder petrol engine. Wood and metal body with canvas tilt. Rear mounted petrol tank and foot board. Forward tilting adjustable windscreen; acetylene headlamps, brass radiator with Crossley badge. Two spare wheels mounted together at front offside. Restored to full working order July 2014.

SD, Field Officer's, Khaki, Ptn 1918

Peaked cap with khaki crown, black mohair band and black patent leather chin strap and peak. The peak decorated with one row of gold oak leaf embroidery. On the band the RAF officers' cap badge of a crown in gold and silver wire embroidery and coloured silks above a gilt metal eagle above two pairs of gold wire laurel leaves.

RFC, Stereoscopic Type

A rectangular wooden case which tapers towards the front. The top of the case has black holders for the photographic plates which fold away from the case, being closed by sliding latches. At one short side is a brass handle, at the other a leather carrying/gripping strap, with buckle for adjusting its length. The case is reinforced at the edges by brass strips, and there are nineteen associated rectangular black Mackenzie Wishart photographic plates, of two types. Brass fitting tube mounted on top.
