The front fastens by means of an over and an under flap both having zips on their edges so that they form a double layer across the chest. The front panel fitted with a steel plate having a keyhole slot in it for the attachment of an oxygen regulator, respirator manifold or a cleat for a hose assembly. The front left lower side provided with two transverse pockets, the right lower side with one transverse pocket. The right one probably to accommodate the homing beacon. The outer and lower edges of the lower pockets on both sides faced with green leather reinforcement. Two Velcro fastening loops are provided; one on the left pocket, the other on the central chest panel by means of which the oxygen supply pipe is directed into the centre line of the wearer's body and restrained from flapping about. A metal D ring is positioned on the front chest to receive the snap hook on the lower end of the oxygen supply pipe as it descends from the mask. Two Velcro loops are provided on the fronts of the shoulders - exact purpose unknown - perhaps to receive the lanyard which connects the lifejacket to the dinghy pack in the ejection seat, when the crewman is not in the aircraft. This tape lanyard with a special attachment fitting on its end emerges from below the left side pocket. Broad adjustable waist strap across the lower back of the garment.
