Circular brass container made from the bases of two 4.5in howitzer shell cases, the more cut-down of the two serving as the tightly-fitting lid to the other which acts as the main body. Engraved with facsimile signatures of members of 'C' Flight, 16 Squadron RFC personnel, August 1917.

Two clear lamps fitted underneath and electrical wiring with multi-pin plugs in rear. Two instruments missing.

Khaki, cotton canvas box-bag, the main compartment closing with a flap fastened by two press-studs facing the wearer and a smaller, full width flap on the outer side closing two vertical pockets for the carriage of anti-gas eye shields and an anti-gas ointment container. The base of the main compartment fitted with two small brass ventilators. Broad, adjustable cotton webbing shoulder strap mounted with yellow alloy hooks which engage with metal D rings attached to the upper sides. The interior divided into three compartments - one full width and the other two of approximately half the width. The edges of the box bag nearest the wearer fitted with two small brass D rings to which is hooked an adjustable waist belt in two parts which fastens with a tongue and slot buckle. Also sewn into the right side rear edge is a length of whip cord. The main shoulder sling provided with an S hook on the right side adjustment slider which engages with a pierced tab fashioned in the mid point of the sling in order to shorten it quickly when required. The left side adjustment slide provided with a cord loop to engage with a uniform button to steady the haversack in certain modes of wear. For use with Long Tube Respirators only.

Rectangular, box-bag made up of sheet webbing material with an open top and flap with two straps which fasten to two buckles on the bottom of the pack or to the buckles on the front face of the lower pack. Two buckled straps close over the face of the flap for the carriage of external loads. On the rear at top, two broad webbing braces pass through buckles to provide adjustment while buckles are sewn to the lower edge of the pack for the attachment of the brace ends when lower pack is not worn. The braces incorporate a brass D hook for attachment to the webbing set while support straps exit the D hooks at right angles, the left strap being integral while the right is attached via a brass hook. All straps terminating in brass end pieces.
