Standard Pattern No. 8499. On a patch of black cotton cut to shape, glued to a light hessian backing and hemmed round the edge, the words ROYAL FLYING CORPS machine embroidered in very pale grey arranged in two lines, the upper, first two words, curved, the lower straight.

Sample No. 7655/1912 Attached to a Sealed Pattern board - On a patch of black melton cut to shape, the words ROYAL FLYING CORPS arranged in two lines, the upper, first two words, curved, the lower straight. The back reinforced with gummed skrim and the letters embroidered through.

Single-breasted, five button jacket with stand and fall collar fastening with hooks. Shoulder straps, reinforcing panels on front of shoulders, pleated flap and button breast pockets, flap and button skirt pockets. Two brass supporting hooks at waist for webbing belt, two short vents at rear. Buttons General Service pattern.

Two pairs of conjoined laurel leaves supporting an eagle with out-streched wings with a King's crown above, all in gilding metal. The arches of the crown filled with red velvet; the join between eagle and crown painted in black. Two flexible fixing blades at rear.

Supported on two pairs of laurel leaves, an eagle with outstretched wings with a King's crown above. Two fixing lugs on reverse with split pin. The whole struck in gilt brass. The crown with red velvet inserts; the joint between eagle and crown covered in black leather.
