Helmet of a Police Motorcyclist

Standard Pattern No. 35/R/1149 Protective helmet consisting of a resin shell covered in leather and lined with cork. Peak in the front, leather curtain in the rear which extends over ears and is fitted with a buckled chin strap. Webbing cradle with padded leather head band. Helmet provided with a series of rubber lined ventilation holes. Blackened brass RAF badge sewn to the front. Black and red band runs round the helmet.

Round peaked cap with dark blue crown, black mohair band and glazed leather peak and chin strap. The crown stiffened with a circlet of cane, not wire so as not to upset magnetic compasses. The band bearing a badge consisting of a crown in gold and silver wire above a gilt metal eagle above two pairs of gold wire laurel leaves, all on a black Melton patch. See historical notes.
