On a shield-shaped patch of bright blue with an orange edge, the white five point star with red centre of the USAAF within a white ring with wings on either side illuminated by four orange searchlight beams. Woven integrally as one piece.

On a wreath of oak leaves, a pair of wings with a five pointed star above. In the centre of the wings a cog. Two fixing lugs on reverse with split pin. Wreath white alloy, wings and star plated in yellow alloy.

Five lightweight wood panels fixed together with brass strips screwed in each corner. Two flat metal pivoting arms joined together and fixed to the board having a rectangular perspex rule with a circular scale (with lock nut) marked 0-350º above. Wood panels split top and bottom.
