First Issue. Almost square turquoise, blue and black paper banknote. Front; ÈMIS EN FRANCE top middle CINQ 5 FRANCS below. 5 at each corner within a black frame/border. Dated 1944. Rear; Tri colour French Flag over pink background with French motto LIBERTE ÈGALITÈ FRATERNITÈ in scroll below.

Khaki cotton, poncho style, cape opening with five buttons. Fall collar with buttoned tab for when worn up. Large diagonal buttoned flaps on chest to gain access to undergarments. Centre rear vent with a single button. Inside, long fabric straps from the shoulders for securing the cape to the body.

Single-breasted, five button, straight cut tunic with stand collar and fitted with gold cord 'epaulettes'. Collar closing with a pair of hooks and eyes. Pleated breast pockets with flap and button. Sword slit in the left waist. Two small vents in the rear. Sleeves with pointed cuffs and four buttons.

All within a vertical oval wreath of laurel and oak with a shield bearing number 1 with bars of the national colours either side. Threaded post with circular nut on rear.
