Aircraft & Exhibits, In Storage, 85/U/917

Single-breasted, hooded, wool lined, padded cotton jacket with zip closure within a five button flap. Neck has an additional tab which closes with a toggle. Vertically opening inset flap and button pocket on the left breast, angled flap and button patch pockets in the skirt. Pen pocket on the left arm. Cuffs fitted with gussets closing with a buttoned tab. Hood of the jacket provided with a draw string. Soft shoulderstraps. Integral fabric belt housed in a tunnel round the waist and closing with a pinless metal buckle. The interior provided with a flap, retained against the back of the garment, but which can be let down between the legs and secured to the front of the jacket with two buttons. A series of buttons are located round the interior of the waist to retain the trousers which form part of this suit.

Ultra dark blue, woollen Battle Dress style jacket with five buttons fastening in a fly and designed to be closed to the neck with hooks and eyes at the collar. Two breast pockets without pleats, single pointed pocket flaps with concealed button fastening. The left pocket bearing the Civil Defence embroidered badge with a King's crown and, below, HASTINGS. The lower edge of the jacket drawn into a waistband which fastens by means of an extension into a belt with a japanned black buckle. Sleeves drawn into cuffs which fasten with a button. Shoulder straps fastening with a button under the collar bearing one stripe of yellow braid. On the left lower sleeve a badge - within a ring a cross pattee and FIRST AID embroidered in yellow. On the right lower sleeve I (Instructor) within an open wreath embroidered in pale grey.

Combination Suit, AFV Crews, Ptn 1944

Khaki combination suit opening from neck to ankles with a pair of fly covered zips which also cover an additional four button closure over the chest. Flapped zip fly. Wide stand and fall collar with two buckled straps for when worn in the up position. Five male press studs round the collar for the attachment of a hood which is fitted to this example. Integral fabric belt with pinless buckle. Soft shoulder straps. Press studded straps at the ankles and cuffs. Flap and button slit openings in the waist for access to under garments. Patch pockets on the thighs, lower legs and chest all closing with buttoned flaps. The left chest pocket has a series of loops for ammunition. Pleated patch pocket on the right for first aid dressing. Integral braces fitted internally.

Made up set of five pouches to hold three clips of ammunition each and arranged in two rows - three below and two above, the latter off-set to the wearer's left. Each pouch provided with a flap closed by a press-stud and each pocket divided transversely with light-weight webbing to separate the clips within it. The rear face of the ensemble bearing a vertical broad webbing strap with a buckle at the top and a chape at the lower end, as well as, on the lower strip of pouches, two large hooks which fasten it to the waistbelt. In addition two narrow webbing straps sewn on the top edge loop backwards round the belt and fasten with press-studs to the lower front edge of the ensemble. A narrow strap is stitched diagonally from the broad strap to the lower rear corner of the pouches and extends by several inches below the belt to connect to the back pack. Blancoed green.
