Straight bladed sword with plain cross quillons. The ricasso formed in a flattened disc bearing on each side an appliqued wreath with a crown and lion above, overlaid with an eagle. The handle tapering to pommel, fluted. A ball pommel engraved "Marshal of the Royal Air Force" and the securing tang nut in the form of a Viscount's coronet. The blade plain, double edged, of oval section engraved "TO MARSHAL OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE THE RT HON THE VISCOUNT PORTAL OF HUNGERFORD GCB, OM, DSO, MC, IN RECOGNITION OF HIS DISTINGUISHED & VALUABLE SERVICES DURING THE LATE WAR" and on the other side "GUILDHALL 12TH JUNE 1946. PRESENTED WITH THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY BY THE CORPORATION OF LONDON". On the lower face of the quillon "DESIGNED BY CYRIL J SHINER". The scabbard of sheet box construction faced with black leather and reinforced with plated steel side strips, drag and chape. On the front face the Arms of the City of London in silver and enamel.

Silver Gilt cast bronze alloy trophy with noticable hairline crack across mid point on all but one face where an internal plug has been fitted. Stands through screw fitting on hemispherical base representing the globe, with ribbed edge and wooden circular baseplate. Valise with ten sides. Engraved:"Air Race 1955 Harewood Cup England - Christchurch (NZ)” and showing England and New Zealand with line etched between two and enamelled wings passing between the two. Inverted cooper metal v-shape on base of valise. Base is comprised of wooden base yellow metal section, green onyx section then curved base. images engraved at top on each panel, book, ship, mountain, corn, cogs, pig etc. Metal screw in base. Contained in wooden box with hinged lid, fastened by brass metal clasp & green felt interior. Copper plate with inscription as follows: "Harewood Gold Cup, London - Christchurch (NZ), winner, Royal Air Force Canberra We139, Pilot Flight Lieutenant R.L.E. Burton, AFC, Navigator : Flight Lieutenant D.H. Ga non, D.F.C., Time: 23 hr. 51 min. 7.2 sec”. Storage box is seperately accessioned.

The Bar is named "the R and i Bar", on the bar are two beer barrels with glasses, behind the bar are stood four airmen with drinks in hand, behind them are hung two union flags.
