Airmen parade in a hangar at RAF Brize Norton for the official naming of a VC 10 (XR810 ‘David Lord’) curtains are drawn back to reveal the name, painted on the aeroplane’s fuselage, and a number of people then board.

Green combination suit opening from neck to crotch with six buttons all, apart form the top button, are covered by a fly. Fall collar and an integral fabric belt with pinless buckle. Pen pockets on each arm. Flap and button slit openings in the chest for access to under garments. Patch pockets in the front and rear of the waist closing with buttoned flaps. Pleated patch pockets with buttoned flaps on thighs with a smaller knife pocket beside.

Long, double-breasted, black thick woollen coat with a fold down collar. Cuffs faced in black leather, the outer to the cuff only, the inner up to the elbow. Flapped, inset pockets in front at waist level the opening protected with leather. Long centre rear vent. Front closes with six pairs of large black Bakelite (?) buttons tapering downwards to the waist. Storm tab and button under the collar. Lined in the body with a thick woollen tweed and in the sleeves with sateened cotton.

Master Pattern No. 35/R/1786 Single-breasted, six button, straight cut tunic with stand collar and loops for shoulder knots. Collar closing with a pair of hooks and eyes and with a white covering flap behind. Pleated breast pockets with flap and button; the flaps cut in three points with shallow scallops. Press studs at the corner of the flap. Two small vents in the rear. Sleeves with false pointed cuffs. The sleeves fitted with small press studs to receive rank badges. Two short vents at rear. Unlined.
