On an eight-point star with a crown at the top, a disc overlaid by an eagle. The disc enamelled with a red centre and blue outer ring lettered AIR MINISTRY FIRE SERVICES. The badge of two piece construction, the central portion being mounted on the crowned star and retained by two lugs and a vertical pin. Two horizontal fixing lugs at rear.

A six-way rotating RANGE switch, two BRILL knobs with eight other varying knobs/switches all fitted in the face. Two large multi-pin plugs and five coaxial connections all colour coded fitted in the left side.

Large, rectangular black crackle painted body with carrying handles on two sides. Two draws (for tape reels) fitted in the front left with on/off switch right. A large electrical motor driving the tape guided by two guides and a small ink well feeding the marker needle fitted on top. Ink well broken off and with wooden storage case.
