Parachute Harness, RAF, Chest Type

Complex arrangement of straps comprising a body harness with two lift webs terminating in large snap hooks which are positioned on the chest. The body harness made up of four adjustable straps ending in connectors a seat strap and a loop passing between the legs. Two straps pass over the shoulders and two over the thighs, through the loop, and all four clip into a quick release connector box positioned on the lower chest. The harness is fitted with a back pad for comfort. Two square metal loops attached to the seat strap are fitted for the attachment of a dinghy pack which acts as a cushion.

Circular, silver with plain bar suspender. Obverse - Crowned profile of KGVI, left side. Around rim GEORGIUS VI D: G: BRO: OMN: REX ET INDIAE: IMP: Reverse - A lion trampling on a two headed monster with, above, 1939 1945. Ribbon - red, white and blue in narrow stripes.

Cream painted steel and aluminium structure with electrical connections and raised three central sections forming part of the seven 1000lb bomb attachments as carried in Avro Vulcan bomb bay. The carrier consists of a front and a rear beam between which are secured seven channels and two carrier-locking units, and from the underside of which extend three pylons which carry the lower of the two tiers of bombs.

Auxiliary Fire Service Jacket

Double-breasted, long skirted tunic type jacket with a stand collar open in front. Shoulder straps. Six pairs of buttons at front - plated 'silver' with AFS in relief - two in the small of the back above a box pleat in the skirt, and on the shoulder straps. Plain sleeves, no cuff. The shoulder straps furnished with two transverse strips of scarlet melton cloth indicating a Section Leader. Lined in coarse black woollen fabric in the body, black cotton in the skirts and white woollen fabric in the sleeves. Condition - good, but buttons and collar hooks corroded and the lining becoming unstitched. Two buttons missing.
