12,000lb High Capacity Bomb Mk 2

Large blast bomb of modular construction painted dark green overall, each section being banded in light green and red. Consists of three 4000lb sections bolted together and is an adaptation of the HC 8,000lb bomb with the addition of a tail cone. Fitted with fore & aft pivotting suspension lugs and four additional fixed central lugs; slightly domed front face with two small spinners, one each side.

Specialist heavy bomb trailer, painted overall dark green. Chassis consists of two long strong steel frame sections. Long, heavy front tow bar, pivoting front axle and steerable rear axle with horizontal steering wheel and rear tread plate for operator, and rear towing hook also. Tool box with lid behind front axle. Four screw jacks, two each side, fore and aft.

Dark patinated bronze cross pattée with a semi-circular extension on the upper arm bearing a ring which engages with a V below the suspension bar which is decorated with two sprays of laurel leaves joined by a ribbon. Obverse - a crown with crowned lion above and below a sroll bearing the words FOR VALOUR. The cross edged with a double line border. Reverse - The cross edged with a double line border and a double lined central disc bearing an engraved date 11TH AUGUST 1945. The reverse of the suspension bar engraved ACT. S/L. I.W. BAZALGETTE, R.A.F. on top line and No.635 SQUADRON on second line. Ribbon - maroon.
