Spare wheel on nearside; front mounted radio aerial Internally complete with seat, wheel, controls, webbing straps etc. Repainted overall desert sand 2010.

Eleven large sections and components recovered from crash site. Originally a four-engined mid wing monoplane heavy bomber with single fin and rudder, three power operated gun turrets and retractable undercarriage. Remains comprise rear fuselage, centre fuselage, fin, rudder, flap section, horizontal stabilisers, dorsal turret surround and leading edge wing fuel tanks.

Framed plywood panel painted dark green on the face with a black painted wooden German cross screwed over a Balkenkreuz black and white painted cross. "239" (BS) over S-D SQUADRON RECORD of VICTORIES in white lettering with the recorded the Squadron victories for the period 28 January-6 November 1944 painted on the black cross. A "key" DESTROYED, PROBABLE and DAMAGED painted in the bottom right corner.

"239" (B-S) SQUADRON RECORD of VICTORIES in white lettering with the recorded the Squadron victories for the period 2 January-14 April 1945 painted on the black cross. A "key" DESTROYED and DAMAGED painted in the bottom right corner. Slight paint reaction in top right corner.

Parachute Harness, RAF, Chest Type

Complex arrangement of straps comprising a body harness with two lift webs terminating in large snap hooks which are positioned on the chest. The body harness made up of four adjustable straps ending in connectors a seat strap and a loop passing between the legs. Two straps pass over the shoulders and two over the thighs, through the loop, and all four clip into a quick release connector box positioned on the lower chest. The harness is fitted with a back pad for comfort. Two square metal loops attached to the seat strap are fitted for the attachment of a dinghy pack which acts as a cushion.

Dark patinated bronze cross pattée with a semi-circular extension on the upper arm bearing a ring which engages with a V below the suspension bar which is decorated with two sprays of laurel leaves joined by a ribbon. Obverse - a crown with crowned lion above and below a sroll bearing the words FOR VALOUR. The cross edged with a double line border. Reverse - The cross edged with a double line border and a double lined central disc bearing an engraved date 11TH AUGUST 1945. The reverse of the suspension bar engraved ACT. S/L. I.W. BAZALGETTE, R.A.F. on top line and No.635 SQUADRON on second line. Ribbon - maroon.
