Aircrew Helmet Mark 3A

Aircrew protective helmet consisting of a rigid glass fibre shell painted white. The crown of the shell has a sateen covered cork lining while a nylon webbing cradle is suspended below this. A foam backed leather lining is laced round the rim of the helmet and extends to cover the forehead and the back of the neck. An additional neck pad is provided and is adjusted by straps which exit the sides of the helmet shell. The microphone connector is housed in an aperture on the left while the jack plug exits the lining at the rear. The telephones are housed in ear capsules fitted with fluid filled ear seals and are suspended by a wire harness. Loops are attached to the ear capsules to aid donning. The helmet is fitted with a visor assembly consisting of a tinted acrylic visor attached to a central track via an operating mechanism controlled by a handle above the visor.

Aircrew protective helmet consisting of a rigid glass fibre shell painted green. Styrene liner with nylon webbing neck strap and cradle to separate head from lining. Leather covered foam pads front and rear. Ear capsules, fitted with finger loops to aid donning, are attached via Velcro pads to nylon straps which can be loosed by external clips on each side of the helmet. Wired for use with US radio equipment while receivers for US J-Type oxygen mask bayonets have been added to the sides of the helmet. Helmet is fitted with a twin visor assembly with controls in housing on the left. A cross of reflective tape is fitted to the top of the helmet. Chin strap with quick locking buckle and Velcro adjustment.

Blue-grey Barathea cap with black mohair band and patent leather peak and chin strap. The peak decorated with two rows of gold wire oak leaf embroidery, the band bearing the Air Officers' cap badge. No false peak at rear. The crown formed from a crescent of fabric stitched around an oval panel at the rear of the head, this panel cleft and gathered to shape. In storage box.

Peaked cap with blue-grey fabric crown, black mohair band and black, patent leather chin strap and peak, the latter bearing one row of gold wire oak leaf embroidery. On the band, a crowned eagle badge in silver and gold wire on a Melton patch.
