Panel of blue-grey cotton fabric of roughly triangular shape fitted with an elastic strap at its lower end and with a buttonhole and loop at its upper end,bearing from top to bottom - 1289 Squadron badge, AIR TRAINING CORPS shouldertitle in curved two line form, Leading Cadet badge and Marksman badge, all embroidered in pale blue on dark blue woollen patches. Designed to be worn on the upper sleeve of the 1972 Pattern sweater secured to the shoulderstrap by the upper loop and round the arm by the lower loop as it was impossible, satisfactorily, to sew badges onto the sweater.

Aircrew Helmet Mark 2A

Aircrew protective helmet consisting of a rigid glass fibre shell painted white. The crown of the shell has a sateen covered cork lining while a nylon webbing cradle is suspended below this. A foam backed leather lining is laced round the rim of the helmet and extends to cover the forehead and the back of the neck. An additional neck pad is provided and is adjusted by straps which exit the sides of the helmet shell. Oxygen mask hooks are attached to the side of the helmet and protrude through the lining. The microphone connector is housed in an aperture on the left while the jack plug exits the lining at the rear. The telephones are housed in ear capsules fitted with fluid filled ear seals and are suspended by a wire harness. Loops are attached to the ear capsules to aid donning. The helmet is fitted with a visor assembly consisting of a tinted acrylic visor with yellow plastic covered operating bar, a plastic visor cover, a visor operating and g-release mechanism with cover on the right, while a simple pivot and cover is found on the left.
