A plain silver cross with bevelled edges the arms of the cross linked by very small quarter-circle quadrants bearing GVI. Centrally a circular medallion of St. George and the dragon, within a border reading FOR GALLANTRY. Plain single link suspender to a straight bar decorated with laurel leaves. Reverse - plain, engraved P/O GERALD CHARLES CLOSE, R.A.F. 21st December 1937.

Rubberised fabric combination suit with belt and fitted with attachment points so that flotation aids can be clipped across chest and back. Rubber seals at wrists. The garment has a lace-up opening in the chest and to put it on the wearer has to climb into it. The foot part is made integral with the leg and covered over in use by 'brogues' - heavily reinforced leather ankle boots with protective toe caps and hob nails.

Obverse - silver star of four "flashes" in each branch enamelled white, superimposed with a central silver medallion with blue enamel surrounded by 16 red/pink paste circular stones. Reverse - plain with Japanese characters . Ribbon - very pale blue-green with yellow edge stripes. Arranged in a triangular form. With plain ring suspender.

Peaked cap with blue-grey fabric crown, black mohair band and black, patent (plastic) leather chin strap and peak, the latter bearing two rows of gold wire oak leaf embroidery. On the band the Air Officers' badge consisting of a gold wire wreath with crown and lion above, overlaid with a gilt metal eagle.
