Khaki drill knee length shorts with button fly. Two side pockets opening vertically down the side seems. The waistband fashioned as two extended straps which cross-over each other; the right one passing through a slit in the left side and thence to a pin buckle, the left one passing through a retainer on the right side and thence to a pin buckle (both buckles missing).

Peaked cap with khaki crown, black mohair band and black patent leather chin strap and peak. The peak decorated with one row of gold oak leaf embroidery. On the band the RAF officers' cap badge of a crown in gold and silver wire embroidery and coloured silks above a gilt metal eagle above two pairs of gold wire laurel leaves.

Mid-brown leather oval mask including nose cover, bound all round with brown twill tape, retaining individual, oval white alloy frames, on spring loaded, fabric-covered sides with very pale yellow windows. Lining velvet, the edges of the frames and the whole edge of the mask covered in chenille padding. White elastic head strap, possibly a later replacement. CONDITION VERY GOOD AND DISPLAYABLE ON A FIGURE.

Dark blue serge pantaloons with button fly, two slit, horizontal side pockets, adjustment strap and buckle at rear and buttons for braces at front and rear. The waist edge, adjustment strap and leg hems bound in narrow brown cotton tape. The seat reinforced with a roughly circular double thickness of fabric. The lace holes at bottom of legs backed with thin leather for strength.

Large circular, bronze plaque bearing a figure of Victory with a trident in her right hand and extending a laurel wreath with her left above an entablature bearing WILLIAM THOMAS JAMES McCUDDEN in relief letters. Standing beside her a lion. At base a lion fighting an eagle. Round the rim HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOVR with two dolphins and a spray of oak leaves. Designed by Mr (later Sir) Edward Carter Preston.

Tan leather cap type helmet lined in chamois in the crown and in fur below the eye line including the peak which is turned up and retained by a press stud. Ear flaps, covering single, large round hole, pierced by nine holes arranged in a circle, retained by press studs: the flaps having cylindrical wind deflectors on their front, vertical edge. Short leather chin strap on right engages with leather covered buckle on left. Condition - very good, displayable.

Aldis (Mark Unknown)

Aldis telescopic gunsight. Long, black and cylindrical in shape. Has a wire running its length, with a simple ring at the pilot's eye end; this had to be pulled to lift up the protective hinged cover over the glass lens at the opposite end when required for use. The pilot's end is wrapped in sorbo rubber as cushioning should the pilot's face impact with the end of the sight during a crash.
