Aircraft & Exhibits, Array, 1987/1186/U
Round peaked cap with dark blue crown, black mohair band and glazed leather peak and chin strap. The crown stiffened with a circlet of cane, not wire so as not to upset magnetic compasses. The band bearing a badge consisting of a crown in gold and silver wire above a gilt metal eagle above two pairs of gold wire laurel leaves, all on a black Melton patch. See historical notes.

Circular, silver with plain bar suspender Obverse - Uncrowned profile of KGV left side. Around the rim GEORGIUS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP: Reverse - A naked male warrior holding a sword on horseback right side. The horse trampling a shield bearing the Prussian eagle, a skull and cross bones at base. Round the rim 1914 1918 Ribbon - Mid orange with blue, black, white edges. The edge impressed MAJOR L.G. HAWKER. V.C. D.S.O. R.F.C. (REPLACEMENT)
Cowl Type, Ptn 1916, Converted

Helmet substantially modified to convert it from a cowl type into a cap type helmet. Brown leather cap type helmet lined in chamois at the crown and in fur at neck, ears and forehead. Ear flaps, covering single, large round hole, pierced by nine holes arranged in a circle, retained by press studs: the flaps having cylindrical wind deflectors on their front, vertical edge. Adjustable leather strap with buckles at left upper, outer corner of face aperture but the right side one removed. A chin strap (right) and buckle (left) added at the lower front corners. The front of the helmet decorated with a black cat lucky charm cut from thick felt with a red collar and glass eyes. Condition -good, worn, dirty inside and very faded, but displayable.
Tropical, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, Officers, Ptn 1908

Single-breasted, four button jacket with roll step collar and lapels. Pleated, flap and button breast pockets and bellows, flap and button skirt pockets. All buttons of Regimental pattern. Centre rear vent, false pointed cuffs, shoulder straps bearing R.W.F. gilding metal, straight shoulder-titles and two gilt brass pips for Lieutenant. Hanging from the rear of the collar the black silk Regimental flash. Above left breast pocket the RAF pilots badge. Above left cuff a single gold braid wound stripe.
Richthofen

Circular, matt silver with; Obverse - uniformed three-quarters facing bust of Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen, encircled by RITTMEISTER MANFRED FRHR V RICHTHOFEN. Reverse - next to a gravestone, decorated with a knight's helmet with crest and mantling and a coat of arms and bearing the date 12 APRIL 1918, a standing eagle, its head raised in salute with the number 89 pierced by an arrow. Encircled by the words DER ROTE KAMPF FLIEGER. Signed by the artist at the base of gravestone.

Oval, silver, with curved bar suspender in the form of wings. Obverse - the sovereign's head (GRV) in left profile with full title round the rim and a narrow border of laurel leaves. Reverse - an eagle in flight with, on its back, Hermes the Messenger of the Gods, with Caduceus in left hand and a laurel wreath in right. A narrow border of laurel leaves. Ribbon - white and red in narrow diagonal lines falling to wearer's left. The edge engraved 228527 A.M.2. BARBER. F.W.A. R.A.F.
Royal Flying Corps Thigh-Length Boots

Thigh length, sheepskin boot with fleece on the inner surface. The top cut lower on the inner edge and higher on the outer edge which is fitted with a bifurcated leather buckle retainer and a strap pierced to fasten over a button. Tightening strap with buckle just below the knee and another across the instep. Red rubber sole. Right Foot. Displayable and in good condition but very fragile and liable to split. Do not use on a mannequin.

Single-breasted, four button jacket with roll-step collar, two flap and button, pleated breast pockets, two flap and button bellows pockets in skirt and centre rear vent. Lower button shows below belt. Integral fabric belt with two prong gilt buckle. Khaki and pale blue rank lace at cuffs to the rank of Major with gilt crowned eagle above. Medal ribbons for MC, 1914-15 Star War Medal, Croix de Guerre with MiD oak leaf and... RAF Pilot's badge above left breast pocket.
SD, OR's, Blue, Ptn 1912

Dark blue cap with glazed fabric peak and chin strap. The crown covered with a white, Summer, cap cover; the band overlaid with a black mohair band bearing a Rating's Fouled Anchor badge in red embroidery. The badge is provided with a pin pierced through the crown at the top to retain the badge against the crown of the cap and stop the embroidered crown falling forwards. The interior fitted with a cane stiffener in the crown but all other lining/stiffening material removed.
