Dark patinated bronze cross pattée with a semi-circular extension on the upper arm bearing a ring which engages with a V below the suspension bar which is decorated with two sprays of laurel leaves joined by a ribbon. Obverse - a crown with crowned lion above and below a sroll bearing the words FOR VALOUR. The cross edged with a double line border. Reverse - The cross edged with a double line border and a double lined central disc bearing an engraved date 25 JULY 1915. The reverse of the suspension bar engraved CAPT. L.G. HAWKER. D.S.O. R. ENGINEERS & R.F.C. The edge of the lower arm of the cross engraved REPLACEMENT 1959. Ribbon - maroon.

Blue cotton breeches shaped to the thigh and close over the knee and upper calf, fastening with laces. The inside of the legs and the seat reinforced with panels of fabric applied with multiple rows of stitching. The top of the garment cut with a flap front fastening with three horn buttons on each side. Set into the front of the flap, two pockets with internal bags set parallel with the fastening panels. Both the front and rear of the waist incorporating pairs of very large darts reducing the waist to tiny proportions. The inside of the front darts acting as the anchor points for an internal waistband of sateened cotton fastening behind the wearer which permits the rear part to be lowered for lavatory purposes without taking the breeches down completely. The rear darts provide anchoring points for a short external strap and buckle for adjustment purposes.
