Aircrew Helmet Mark 1

Moulded shell made from bonded, laminated nylon fabric, lined throughout in leather and with a leather-covered brow cushion across the front. The edge of the casing trimmed with black moulded rubber binding. The interior fitted with a light, man-made fibre webbing harness to hold the shell off the head. Harness attached to the shell by white metal tabs riveted through. The helmet is worn over a Type F blue cotton flying helmet.The exterior of the helmet fitted with two male press-studs on the lower rear sides to retain straps for a detachable visor. Adjustable light webbing chin strap fitted on press-studs (missing). The shell painted silver overall.

Large 14" faced wood cased clock ; RAF crest at centre of the clock face, which has inner ring numbered 13-24 and 1-12 and outer ring numbered in 5 second intervals to show the minute; faded coloured segments "facing inwards" divide the 1-12 hours ring. The clock case has three wall mounting brackets at the rear; the pendulum and weight are detached and stored inside the clock case, accessible by a hinged, latched flap at the rear.The glass covering the clock face hinges outward to permit the hands to be adjusted and is locked by a clip at the side. Sector paint faded and peeling.

Victoria Cross awarded to AVM Frank Hubert McNamara. Visual Description - dark patinated bronze cross pattée with a semi-circular extension on the upper arm bearing a ring which engages with a V below the suspension bar which is decorated with two sprays of laurel leaves joined by a ribbon. Obverse - a crown with crowned lion above and below a sroll bearing the words FOR VALOUR. The cross edged with a double line border. Reverse - The cross edged with a double line border and a double lined central disc bearing an engraved date 20 MAR 1917. The reverse of the suspension bar engraved LT. F.H. MC NAMARA. No.67 AUS. SQDN. R.F.C. Ribbon - maroon.
