Distinguished Flying Cross

A silver cross with bifurcated and curled ends bearing flaming grenades, overlaid vertically with a two-blade propeller and horizontally with a pair of wings. The centre medallion composed of a laurel wreath overlaid by a crowned Tudor rose bearing, centrally, RAF in monogram. The top branch without a grenade, fashioned with a decorative shape and loop for suspension. An intermediate ring connects to a plain suspender bar with laurel leaves below pierced to receive the intermediate ring. Reverse - Within a ring GRI 1918. Engraved at the bottom of the cross the date of award - 1943. Ribbon - white and purple in thin diagonal lines.

A four armed gold cross, the ends of the arms divided into three branches, enamelled pale blue. The upper arm terminating in a gold crown with integral loop and articulated ring suspender. Centrally a gold medallion bearing the crowned profile portraits of King George V and Queen Mary within a crimson ring lettered FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE. Reverse plain gold, the medallion bearing GRI crowned. Neck ribbon - purple with a central orange stripe OR pink with silver grey narrow edges and centre stripe.

A pair of unlacquered, white alloy, oval frames holding yellow tinted Triplex windows, the frames spring-sided with grey silk surrounds and chenille padding. The link across the bridge of the nose formed by a piece of metal connected to small rings emerging from the sides of each frame. The link backed by cotton tape padded with chenille . Grey, two-piece, adjustable, elastic head band attached to the eye pieces by grey leather tabs. CONDITION - good, slightly grubby, the head band fragile. Displayable, but probably not on a figure.

Single-breasted, waist-length jacket with buttons concealed in fly to neck, stand and fall collar fastening with hooks, shoulder straps, buttoned cuffs. Flapped pleated breast pockets with concealed button. Waistband with belt extension to a metal buckle. Buttonholes inside waistband to engage with buttons on waistband of trousers. Rank insignia SAY WHERE AND IN WHAT FORM. Pilot's Air Gunner's Navigator's Observer's Signaller's Bomb Aimer's DELETE AS APPROPRIATE flying badge above left breast pocket. Mention any medal ribbons which may be below the flying badge. Pale blue shoulder eagles printed on black cotton patches on shoulders. (Delete as appropriate) Rank .... Flying badges ...
