Wing Rib

Long thin plywood wing rib of glued and pinned open construction; typical aerofoil shape. Has been broken in half at some point before acquisition by RAFM, and reglued.

Large ball-shaped impression of old-fashioned grenade, the top with the flame screwing off to permit refilling. There is a hole in the top of the flame for the wick.

Within a crowned laurel wreath RFC in monogram, voided. Fixing at rear - two lugs with split pin. The whole struck in patinated bronze. Complete with miniature ribbon bar (Victory Medal & British War Medal 1914-1918) and blue leather backing for badge.

Within a crowned laurel wreath RFC in monogram, voided. Fixing at rear - two soldiered fixings with pin (broken). The whole struck in patinated bronze.

Lieutenant F.J.P.F. Wessel RFC and RAF

Aircraft & Exhibits, In Storage, X003-8046

Small square silver cigarette case, hinged at the centre. Plain exterior, but inside engraved with full details of Lieut. Wessels' RFC/RAF career with dates, postings and locations. Interior straps for holding the cigarettes in position now missing.

Statue, Mercury

Aircraft & Exhibits, In Storage, 1988/0734/C

Bronze figure of Mercury missing right arm. His left arm at one time held a caduceus which is now broken and missing while his missing right arm seemingly held aloft a sterling silver monoplane which is still with the statue, complete and in good condition. ( Though see Anecdotal Information)
