Small rectangular tin trunk with enamelled exterior and blue painted interior with no internal partitions. Hinged at rear, and front of lid closed by two sliding bars with projecting grip handles. Maker's name plate and engraved owner's nameplate on top of lid. Single pivotting carrying handle at top/rear, plus one either side.

Round peaked cap with dark blue crown, black mohair band and glazed leather peak and chin strap. The crown stiffened with a circlet of cane, not wire so as not to upset magnetic compasses. Fitted with white cap cover.

Brown leather cap type helmet lined throughout in khaki silk. Large flaps retained by a single press stud covering single holes in the sides. The flaps fitted with two pairs of studs so that they can be rolled inwards to form wind deflectors. A transverse leather loop on the top of the crown - purpose unknown. Chin strap formed of a doubled length of narrow white, cotton-covered elastic on left with a hook sewn to its end which engages with a small steel ring on right. Elastic appears to be a contemporary replacement. Right ear flap inked on the outside Long W RST or possibly Longhurst Condition - good and supple inside and out. The elastic has lost its stretch. Displayable.

Broad brown leather belt, with double pin, brass buckle, fitted with three brass D rings on its upper edge and two brass rings on its lower edge. To the left of the buckle is a running leather loop, a flat brass hook (broken) and a fixed, long-neck stud which engages in holes pierced in the right end. Metal work secured by decorative stitching and brass rivets. Behind the buckle is a flaired leather piece to protect the uniform fabric.

Narrow, brown leather strap fitted with a brass stud and pierced leather tab at its rear end and shaped to a pierced point at its forward end. Attached to this end a short strap with single pin brass buckle at one end and a brass stud and pierced leather tab at the other. The strap fitted with two leather loops, one fixed and one running.
