Obverse - a gold Maltese cross with ball finials, enamelled deep red. In the centre a white medallion bearing conjoined Ss in red all within a border decoreated with a laurel wreath. In the interstices the Imperial double-headed eagle and behind the whole, crossed swords. The ends of each branch of the crossed decorated with semi-circular loops of 'ribbon' in yellow metal. From the upper one of these a loop connecting to an oval suspension loop. Reverse - the back of the cross plain yellow metal the vertical arms bearing tiny stamped markings. The centre of the cross holding the same central medallion as the obverse within a plain edging. Ribbon - scarlet with two narrow white stripes on each edge, the inner ones broader than the outer ones.
