Poster for 1933 RAF Display at RAF Hendon
This poster advertising the 1933 Royal Air Force Display at RAF Hendon shows a Hawker Fury, one of the many RAF aircraft due to appear on the programme.
During the 1920s and 1930s the annual Royal Air Force air displays held at RAF Hendon attracted huge crowds of spectators and were regularly attended by Royalty. Months of training and preparation went into the formation aerobatic displays, 'crazy flying' exhibitions, mock air battles, realistic bombing attacks on specially-constructed 'targets' and demonstrations by new types of aircraft, which regularly featured in these events. Proceeds from entrance charges also raised large sums for service charities.
