Legion d'Honneur, Order of the, Chevalier, of Flight Lieutenant Michael Weller
Awarded posthumously to Weller by the French Government in recognition of his service as a flying instructor at Meknes Air Base where he served from June 1954 on a NATO exchange posting with the French Air Force. He was killed in a mid-air collision with another French aircraft in February 1956.
Citation reads: "This officer has been attached to the French Air Force in the role of fighter aircraft flying instructor since June 1954. A brilliant pilot endowed with remarkable professional gifts, he has dedicated himself entirely to the arduous and thankless task of instructing and has fully contributed to the successful passing out of eleven courses of fighter pilots. An instructor without equal, he quickly earned the esteem of his superiors and of his French comrades and the admiration of his pupils. The memory of Flight Lieutenant Peter Michael Weller and the example which he gave will always remain in the minds and the hearts of those who knew and admired him".
