Fighter Fund Jigsaw
Many products, including toys, were made and sold to raise money for aircraft during the Second World War. A London-based manufacturer created this jigsaw, which has over 200 pieces, for the Hendon Fighter Four Fund.
Fighter Funds, begun in 1940, were one of a number of fundraising initiatives to enable the public to support the war effort. Charity shops run by volunteers sold a range of goods that also provided entertainment for families at the height of the war. Money raised from the sale of this jigsaw went directly towards funding aircraft such as the Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane. 1,500 Spitfires were funded through such projects.
