Dummy Parachutist
As part of Operations ‘Titanic’ I, III & IV hundreds of these dummies were dropped over Normandy to act as decoys.
Operation Titanic successfully diverted defending units to the dummy drop zones, preventing the Germans concentrating their full forces against points of decisive importance on D-Day. The dummy paratroopers were made of Hessian cloth and would have been filled with sand or straw. The British Army called the dummies "Ruperts", a nickname given to young officers.
