Royal Air Force Officers serving with the Fleet Air Arm would wear this badges on the centre of their left jacket sleeve, directly above the rank lace.
Formed in 1924, the Fleet Air Arm comprised of Royal Air Force units serving onboard Royal Navy ships and aircraft carriers. The aircrew were a mix of Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marine officers with the RAF initially contributing the majority of pilots. Over time, the proportion of Royal Navy personnel increased and by 1939, the Admiralty had taken over responsibility for the Fleet Air Arm.
