Royal Aircraft Factory Mk V Barometric Altimeter
Damaged aircraft altimeter with shrapnel damage, missing front glass and indicator finger.
The damage to this Altimeter is believed to be from shrapnel entering the cockpit of MRAF Sir Arthur Travers Harris "Sopwith 1½ Strutter" in Belgium August 1917 over Ypres Salient. Coming over his shoulder cutting the telephone from his ear and wounding the Observer/Gunner "Webb" who was taken to Hospital upon landing in Bailleul.
