Hydraulic Pump, Bristol Blenheim Mark IV
Recovered from its crash site near Kaas, this pump belonged to a Bristol Blenheim Mark IV R3802 that was shot down during RAF No. 82 Squadron’s raid of the Aalborg Airfield, Denmark, 13 August 1940.
Of R3802’s three-man crew, two survived and were made prisoners of war: Flight Lieutenant R.A.G. Ellen (Pilot) and Sergeant V.J. Dance (Observer). During his imprisonment, Flt Lt Ellen attempted to escape by jumping from a moving train, and upon recapture, joined Escape Committees at Oflag VIB and Stalag Luft III. His efforts were later commended in The London Gazette, 3 September 1946. R3802’s Wireless Operator / Air Gunner Sergeant G. Davies was killed in action.
