Skin Panel, Kampfgruppe 100 Badge
Kampfgruppe (KGr) 100 was a specialised unit of the German Air Force which pioneered the use of radio aids for bombing and target marking during the Second World War.
Their Heinkel He 111 aircraft was fitted with series of radio beams for accurate navigation and bombing. Known as the X-System (X-Verfahren), it was first used in the Battle of Britain in 1940 in a raid on a Spitfire factory in Castle Bromwich near Birmingham. It took the RAF until 1942 to develop a comparable system. The symbol of the Viking ship was designed by a former sailor who was serving with unit.
