London, Hangar Two Aircraft & Exhibits
Control column from B.E.2c biplane aircraft, with bullet damage at top of shaft just below where pilots' hand would have held it.
From aircraft flown by Lord Dowding in the First World War. Whilst commander of the BE2c/MF Shorthorn equipped No 16 Squadron RFC c. July 1915, based at Merville, 30km west of Lille, he was flying over enemy lines when a bullet grazed his hand, damaging the control column thus.
