Skin Fragment from Gotha Bomber
Small rectangular fragment of linen from Gotha G V bomber, showing stencilled serial number Go 674 in black ink.
From a German Gotha bomber which crashed near Canterbury 6-7 December 1917. It was one of six that had attacked London, but was hit by AA fire at 5am; damage to the port radiator caused the engine to overheat and then catch fire; it came down at 5.50am at Folly Farm, St Stephen's, where the three crew set fire to the aircraft and then surrendered to the local clergyman, who was a special constable.
