Operation Grapple 1956-1957

Government publication that provides details about the work of Operation Grapple, 1956-1957.

Operation Grapple was a series of British atomic and hydrogen bomb tests that were carried out at Christmas Island and Malden Island in 1957 and 1958. There were nine tests in total. This booklet was created for service personnel who were to be part of Operation Grapple and provides an overview of the nature of nuclear weapons, the geographical area in which the tests were carried out, the different duties of the armed forces on an individual service level as well as what to expect as part of living on a desert island.
