Medal Bar of Pilot Officer Robert Alan Marshall
Robert Alan Marshall trained in Canada as a navigator. Marshall joined the RAF as a Sergeant, before being promoted to Pilot Officer, and served with Nos. 12 and 619 Squadrons. Marshall was later seconded to BOAC.
Marshall was born at Binbrook, Lincolnshire in 1916 but grew up in Exmouth and was educated at Devonport Grammer school. He served as Sergeant in the RAF Volunteer Reserve and was commissioned in 1942 Marshall was awarded his DFC in 1943 for his service in No. 12 Squadron where he was commended for 'cheerful confidence while preparing for daring operations'. Marshall was awarded a bar to his DFC in 1944 whilst serving with No. 619 Squadron. whilst Deputy Navigation Leader.
