de Havilland Tiger Moth Mk II
This Tiger Moth was built in Cowley, Oxford, in 1941 and served briefly with No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School at Hatfield, Hertfordshire and later No. 7 Elementary Flying Training School at RAF Desford in Leicestershire between 1942 and 1946.
The Tiger Moth entered service with the RAF in 1932, a role that it was suited to given its docile handling characteristics in normal flying conditions. As an initial trainer, many bomber crews would receive their first flying experience in a Tiger Moth, before graduating onto more advanced types such as Ansons or Oxford. Nearly 9000 were produced, and the type remains popular for leisure flying today.
