Vickers FB 5 'Gunbus' (Replica)
The 'Gunbus' was Vickers' first military aircraft. In February 1915 during the First World War, it equipped the first British two-seat fighter squadron – No. 11 at Netheravon. It flew its first patrol in France on 29 July 1915 and proved very successful.
This is a classic 'pusher' type with rear-mounted engine and crew in nacelle and boom-mounted tail. This replica was built in 1965–1966 by apprentices and the Weybridge Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society, using an original Gnome Monosoupape rotary engine. It was flown regularly until its final flight at the RAF 50th Anniversary Royal Review at RAF Abingdon on 14 June 1968.
