Pilot's flying log book of Maj Robert Edward Aylmer Werge Hughes-Chamberlain, 17 March 1915-26 September 1917
Born in South Africa Hughes-Chamberlain gained his Royal Aero Club license at Brookland in February 1915.
The log book covers the period of military flying training undertaken in the UK and his posting to France in August 1915 with No.11 Squadron flying the two seat Vickers Gunbus and later No.24 Squadron flying the single seat Airco D.H.2. He records being shot through the foot on 16 August 1916. Hughes-Chamberlain was repatriated to the UK following his injury and after a period of convalescing he returned to the air in May 1917.
