De Havilland DH9A
Known affectionately as the 'Ninak', the DH9A entered service in June 1918 and proved highly effective as a long-range strategic bomber.
Developed from the DH9, the 9A had a major redesign of the fuselage and wings with nearly 900 produced by the close of 1918. In addition to home-based Auxiliary squadrons such as No. 601, whose home was here at RAF Hendon for a time, DH9A's were used after the First World War by the RAF's post-war bombing force in British colonies. They were finally withdrawn in 1931. This DH9A was brought down during a bombing raid on Kaiserslautern, Germany, in October 1918.
