Twinkletoes the Cat Mascot
Twinkletoes accompanied Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown during the first non-stop transatlantic flight which he made with Captain John Alcock in a Vickers Vimy on 14–15 June 1919.
Alcock and Brown flew from Newfoundland to Ireland, a distance of 3,040 km (1,890 miles) in 16 hours, winning the £10,000 Transatlantic Prize offered by the Daily Mail. In addition, both received knighthoods. To bring them luck they took with them a horseshoe and two black cat mascots: 'Lucky Jim' and 'Twinkletoes'.
