WRAF shoulder title, 1918 pattern
This shoulder title was worn by personnel of the Women’s Royal Air Force (WRAF).
The WRAF was established on 1 April 1918. Personnel were enrolled from the Women’s Royal Naval Service, Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, other uniformed services, or were civilian volunteers. WRAF could serve in a trade from one of four groups: Clerks and Storewomen, Household, Technical and Non-Technical. When the WRAF was disbanded in 1920, over 30,000 women had served in over 50 trades, 500 of them in France and Germany.
