Officer’s Cuff Eagle Badge 1918 Pattern
In 1918, the RAF adopted various sizes of braid worn on the cuff of a uniform jacket to denote the rank of an officer. Above the braid, a crowned eagle was worn.
Worn with both the Khaki and Pale Blue officer’s uniforms, cuff badges consisted of separate eagle and crown badges fixed to a common backing plate. They were issued in handed pairs so the eagle would always look to the rear of the cuff. In 1920, a new Blue/Grey uniform was introduced and the waring of cuff badges was suspended.
