Apprentice Badge, Ptn 1924
The encircled four-blade propeller badge was worn by apprentices and boy entrants in the Royal Air Force.
17 April 1919, Air Ministry Weekly Order 500 recognised the distinct service of apprentices and boys by introducing the encircled four-bladed propeller badge. It was to be worn on the upper left arm sleeve and above the chevron that distinguished rank. The badge and chevron system of distinction remained in place for apprentices until 1973, when coloured lanyards were introduced.
