Messerschmitt Me 410A-1-U2
This Me 410 was surrendered to the British in Denmark in May 1945. The history of its service with the Luftwaffe is not entirely clear.
The Me 410 Hornisse (Hornet) was developed from the failed Me 210, itself designed as a replacement for the Bf 110. It could fulfil both the bomber destroyer and fast bomber roles. Its heavy forward-firing armament allowed it to easily down Allied bombers, but its lack of manoeuvrability made it very vulnerable to Allied escort fighters (such as the P-51 Mustang) as the range of the latter increased throughout the War.
