Report titled "The effects of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki", 30 June 1946
After VJ Day, on 15 August 1945, President Roosevelt directed the United States Strategic Bombing Survey to conduct a study of the effectiveness of Allied air power against Japan.
Over 300 civilians and 750 military personnel were stationed at its headquarters in Tokyo, and in mobile teams across Japan, mainland Southeast Asia, and the Pacific islands. Field studies were conducted at the scenes of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to gather information on damage to Japan’s industrial and transportation infrastructure; as well to assess civil defence, and effects on civilian morale. This report was published on 30 June 1946.
